Cody Kevin Hammond

Cody Kevin Hammond was born October 15th @ 11:32 P.M. He is by far the sweetest, most adorable baby we have ever seen. He was 2 weeks and 2 days early but he still weighed 8lbs 3oz. What a little stud. He's been eating very very well. The process of bringing him into this world ended up being a little rough, but he's such a little toughy. We left for the hospital at arrived around 7 a.m. not twenty minutes later did they have me on IV's and had my water broken. Contractions started and slowly were getting stronger, closer together, and more intense. Around 11:30 a.m. I ordered for my epidural. Got the epidural and took it easy the rest of the afternoon. Around 8:00 p.m. I was dialated to a 10 and started pushing. I pushed and pushed and pushed and pushed. . . Not a whole lot was happening. I really noticed that it seemed like the epidural had completely worn off or wasn't working or something. Our doctor came in to inform us that our son's head wasn't going to budge. He wouldn't even come down enough for them to "help" him out with fourceps or a vaccuum. Doctor said that we were going to have to do a c section. I was already in enough pain to be tearing up but now I balled. I felt like such a failure that I couldn't even push him out. Kevin and I cried while they prepped the OR. It seemed like eternity until they finally rolled me up. I got a spinal block that they put in higher than where they epidural went. As I layed back freshly numb I noticed I was having a hard time breathing. I let whoever was right there know that I was breathing easily, calm and first but as the seconds were going by it was not getting better. Worse and worse I ended up screaming "help me I can't breathe!". The doc let me know that I was breathing fine I just couldn't feel my chest. I was freaking out bad enough that they had to strap my arms down, and were about 30 seconds away from putting me out altogether. So there I lay trying not to panic AGAIN or STILL. . I could hear the doc telling Kevin, as he came in the room, that I thought I wasn't breathing but that I was doing fine, my blood oxygen was excellent. By the time that they had Cody out, I was completely out of it. I saw him over the little curtain they put up but his head looked like a mushroom. The top half that was trying to go through my pubic bone had swollen up completely. I also forgot to mention that he was head down and ready to come out but that his head was turned to the left, so it was making things worse. Things worked out for the best and we are soooooooo very blessed to have him in our lives. He has the most beautiful hair I've ever seen, and gets compliments on it constantly. He has my nose and chin, Kevin's eyes and ears. All in all he's just perfect.
